1Texas Course 102- 4 options

Texas Department of Public Safety Approved Driver Education Course #102. Texas residents have 4 programs to choose from. View your options here.

The Parent Taught Driver Education Program is available to teenagers between the ages of 14 and 17. However, before the instructor (parent, stepparent, grandparent, step-grandparent, foster parent or legal guardian) begins teaching this course, the instructor must have a valid TEXAS driver license. The instructor must also have held a license for the preceding three years; if the instructor has not held a Texas license for the past three years, the instructor's driving record from the previous state of residence will be examined to determine eligibility. Active US military personnel and their spouse may participate as instructors if they hold a valid license from their state of permanent residence or last duty station for the preceding three years.

1No state driver test required

Worried that you can not obtain a license until age 18? Do not fear!

"Help for the Teenager Who Wants to Drive" is licensed by the Texas DPS to help You get your permit as early as age 15 and your license as early as age 16. The National Driver Training Institute has been on the forefront of Graduated Driver Licensing since 1994. Our stepwise, systematic, proven approach is approved by the DPS to help you get, not only your license, but the experience you need to be a safe driver for life. Since 1997, we have stood beside Texas teens, helping them learn to drive. Laws and legislatures may change, but NDTI and "Help for the Teenager Who Wants to Drive" will stay with you; helping you get your license, yesterday, today, and tomorrow.Thousands of Texas families are a part of our growing alumni.... here are a few of the reasons why parents keep coming back to National Driver Training Institute:

  • No Department of Public Safety DL-91A or DL-91B forms are needed (state audit forms).
  • No driver license road test is required.
  • No state curriculum is required.
  • National Driver Training certifies all driver test and driving logs before you arrive at the DPS. Simply present our Certificates of Completion to the DPS.
  • Other programs must be audited by the State, which could mean extra trips to the DPS. All traffic safety videos are new productions (1997-2004) with producer licenses and copies (no counterfeit videos--no excuses will be accepted for outdated and recalled videos).
  • National Driver Training approved curriculum "Help for the Teenager Who Wants to Drive" is not a copy of the Texas curriculum course 101. Our curriculum was used in the development of Senate Bill 964 and the Texas Department of Insurance Commissioner Order #98-0162.

1 1Good Housekeeping

The March 2003 edition of Good Housekeeping magazine featured an assessment of the traditional driver education and training model taught by schools since 1949. The final grade? A solid F. Good Housekeeping criticized High School and commercial driver training programs for not coordinating class and driving times and for focusing only on the skills needed to pass a driving test.

But what kind of driver education does get Good Housekeeping's approval? The article suggests that you spread out the learning process over several months and incorporated behind the wheel practice concurrently with class study. Further more, focus on techniques to avoid accidents.

No other driver education course has done a better job of incorporating these two lifesaving concepts than National Driver Training Institute's Help for the Teenager Who Wants to Drive.
